The VOU Dance Group will participate in the Tempo Dance Festival in Auckland, New Zealand.

Since its inception in 2007, the group has become   popular locally and has been an ambassador of Fiji in their international performances.

Group founder Sachiko Soro said, “It is a huge honour because we are the first Pacific company to be asked to do so.”

The group will perform one of their renowned productions called the ‘Mataqali Drift’.

They hope to showcase their Fijian contemporary dance to an international audience and opportunities for other international tours that will flow on from there.

“We believe in creating sustainable careers in the arts for Fijian dancers, so we hope this will provide some good professional development for the VOU dancers and provide some good inspiration for their choreography,” Mrs Soro said.

There are 10 dancers performing the Mataqali Drift. These dancers, with the collaboration from eight Auckland-based Fijian dancers, will participate in the Museum Project.

The group will leave next month to perform in the festival.
