The Nawaka Rugby Club of Nadi was thankful for the timely arrival of rugby jerseys from All Black’s legend Andy Haden yesterday.

The donation was facilitated by the Blue Energy Committee from the Fiji Beach Resort and Spa, the favourite holiday spot for Haden.

“Over the years there has been a lot of association of Fiji with the Auckland rugby team, the All Blacks and the Classic All Blacks team,’’ he said.

“I feel that we have an obligation to the relationship with Fijian players especially Nadi.”

He said the association over the years saw a number of players from Fiji playing for rugby clubs in New Zealand.

“We enjoy their company and also the skills they have,’’ Haden said.

“We have also donated some sporting gear to the Nadi District School and to the Yavusania Village in Nadi to help them along the way.”

Haden said the committee identified Nawaka Rugby Club as a worthy recipient of the two sets of jerseys.

He played as the lock-forward for Auckland and New Zealand in the 1970s and 1980s and has been in the sport for 15 years.

Members of the rugby club thanked Haden for the donation which will help the side nurture future stars for the national side.

The side is known for producing players like Manasa Qoro, Esala Labalaba, Savenaca Aria, Apenisa Naevo, Semisi Naevo, Aminiasi Nava, Apisai Nagata, Lalai Driu and the late Senivalati Laulau. Laulau was also a former Fiji 7s coach.
