Security for the residents and inmates at the Naboro Corrections Centre will be more secure when extra fencing being  done is completed.

The Government had $570,000 set aside under the 2014 capital works programme for this project.

Department of Corrections spokesperson, Kuini Waqasavou,  said work on it was about to be completed.

This, she says, is the first time that the Naboro Corrections Centre has set up boundary fencing which is aimed at improving the standard of infrastructure and security.

“The total length of the boundary fencing is 1800 metres which covers the main entrance to the Naboro Corrections facilities as well as the area used for farming by the inmates,” she said.

The boundary fencing, she said, contributes to the efficient and effective implementation of the department’s main core function, which is the safe custody of offenders currently under their care.

The Projects and Engineering Unit of the Fiji Corrections Service has 24 weeks to complete the fencing work.
