PM To Meet Ban Ki-Moon

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will have a bilateral meeting with the United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Kimoon today in New York.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs Ratu Inoke Kubuabola confirmed this yesterday.

The Prime Minister flew to New York yesterday for the UN meet accompanied by Ratu Inoke.

The Foreign Affairs Minister told the Fiji Sun before they departed that the Prime Minister would be speaking on Saturday.

He said he had a number of bilateral meetings on the side of the General Assembly Meeting.

The Prime Minister had already said he would tell the General Assembly Meeting. and the world how he had achieved his promise of returning Fiji to parliamentary democracy.

“There, I will tell the world what we have just accomplished in Fiji. It will be a landmark occasion,” he said.

He said he had made a promise that he would take Fiji to the first genuine democracy in Fiji’s history and that he had kept that promise.

They are expected back in the country on October 3 to attend the first sitting of Parliament on October 5.

The Deputy Pemanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Esala Nayasi, and Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Peter Thomson will join the Prime Minister and Ratu Inoke in New York.
