Nadi Town is preparing to host its 5th Diwali Festival of Lights at Koroivolu Park in Nadi from October 16-18.

It will have the theme ‘A festival full of Joy, Unity, Colours and Prosperity.

Organisers hope the three-day festivity will attract people from all walks of life.

National Diwali Festival of Lights events director, Vineel Nand said the festival would attract about 10,000 people.

“The year 2014 is marked as the year of Something Different and we will have a film production team from India which will design the concept and the programmes,’’ Mr Nand said.

“We request businesshouses to decorate their shops, book their stalls and be part of the event. Also free stalls up for grabs.”

He said the festival would be a unique cultural experience for those people.

“Fiji is the place to be this October and November. “In Fiji, this festival is celebrated by many ethnic groups and we have a strong Indian community since their arrival in 1879.

“The Indian community has kept alive the spirit of their homeland with festivals and traditions.”

There will be highlights of the festival, agricultural shows, shopping booths and amusements and entertainments by groups like Fiji’s Dancing Superstars, Masti Arts, Glitz & Glamour, Good Boys Orchestra, Western Music Association, VOU Dance Group and Oceania Dance Group.

“During the event, each day will feature a celebration of one of the principal stories associated with the festival narrating the triumph of various Indian figures over demons and the revelation of a new leader for the kingdom.
