Police Blues 14–10 Fiji Bitter Army

What happened:

Defending champions Police Blues took the lead in the first half with a try to Apete Naikolo followed by a successful conversion from Enele Malele to give the Blues a head start.

Army answered shortly with a successful penalty to Taniela Naqali to put them on the scoreboard. Naqali came through yet again with a try followed by a conversion to turn the tables and put Army in the lead at halftime.

Halftime: Fiji Bitter Army 10-7 Police Blues

Both teams struggled to progress the scores any further entering the second half with no change to the scoreboard almost 30 minutes into the second half, neither team fully capitalizing on a number of scoring opportunities.

Lady luck finally came through for Police in the 67th minute with a penalty try awarded to the Blues followed by an easy conversion by Malele to turn the odds in their favour with a 14-10 lead.

Star turn:

Naikolo and Naqali both deserve honorable mention for putting their respective teams on the map but Malele’s crucial penalty conversions helped put his team in the lead.

Big play:

Both teams did a good job but Police’s determination to defend their title saw them come through victorious in the end.

Comments;

Police Blues coach Solomone Nuta, “We’re thankful for the win. We put pressure on ourselves but in the end it was as much a matter of Army giving us enough leeway for us to breakthrough and win.

“We made some mistakes and we’ll have to work on our set pieces to be prepared well for our defense for next week’s final.”
