Vuda Marina came alive on Friday night as the inaugural Oktoberfest Fiji kicked off at the Boat Shed Restaurant at Vuda Point outside Lautoka.

The night was filled with pure reverberation of enchanting music encompassing bass beats and guitar riffs that would have triggered the inner dancer in you.

Vuda Marina general manager Adam Wade said the event was a first of its kind in Fiji and at the marina as well.

“Absolutely Vuda Marina came alive, with such a good atmosphere and lovely crowd as this is the first time we’re hosting this celebration,” Mr Wade said.

“Germans are always looking forward to this celebration to share with friends. As far as we know Oktoberfest is being hosted for the first time in Fiji; this celebration is generally held in Munich, Germany, and is attended by over five million people.”

Mr Wade said the main objective was to bring about different people and races to experience this celebration and feel at home – experience their cultural celebrations.

Interestingly staff were wearing German attire as Lederhosen (male) and females came out in dirndl (German traditional dress) as they made sure the patrons beers were upsized and food was always served on time.

German food available included bratwurst sausage, giant pretzel, hendl chicken, and pork schnitzel sandwich.

“It is fitting to celebrate this event with Paradise Beverages with Fiji Bitter, Fiji Gold, Fiji Premium and Vonu all served in stein glass (one litre size). We are also playing live band and free shuttle from Lautoka and water taxis operating from Port Denarau to the marina,” Mr Wade said.

The event includes competitions of beer sculling, best dressed, and giveaways to go with the long hours of jazzing up the night featuring local artists such as Bill Beddoes, The Fijian Fusion, and The Divine.
