Waisea Nacuqu has been ruled out of the Vodafone Fiji 7s team preparing for the Oceania Sevens Championship in Noosa, Australia this weekend.

Vodafone Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan confirmed the Votua, Ba native has been dropped because of an ankle injury.

“Nacuqu was injured during the Ovalau 7s and failed to recover in time and we have decided to rest him,” Ryan said.

He has been replaced by Anare Saurara, a former Raiwaqa player, who plays for the Yamacia 7s team.

Ryan identified Saurara during the 2014 Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s.

“I believe that Anare should be able to replace Nacuqu but we needs to work on his fitness for the next few days.”

Ryan says Saurara should combine well speedster Jerry Tuwai.

Meanwhile, the team’s preparation has been going well

“We’ve two training sessions everyday and there are a lot of niggling injuries but we are getting there,” he said.
