The Southern Division HQ Police Wives Volleyball team started preparations ahead of their annual tournament on October 10-11 in Lautoka.

Being the first time for Southern HQ Command Centre to set up a women’s team for the tournament, they played yesterday against Band, CID Headquarters and Police Academy.

Southern Division HQ Police Wives volleyball team head coach Tuinidau Nawaitabu said this was a chance for him to see how the women perform as a team.

“The match assists me identifying the fitness levels of the ladies and we will be fielding two teams” Tuinidau said.

“I have been setting up training every afternoon because I want to see how they perform under the hot sun.

“Because we don’t have much time to prepare, I will be stepping up training  from now on because this is the first time for them to be competing in a tournament. We want to make a lasting impression.”

Police Wives vice-president Timaleti Turagaborisi said the support has been overwhelming and is a good sign for women in sport.

“We have been getting a lot support from our husbands which is really good because it has lifted and encouraged the women,” said Turagaborisi.”
