Police have yet to question the 35-year-old man who was found with the body of a 14-year-old girl in Viria, Naitasiri.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said they have yet to question the suspect because he remained in serious condition at the hospital.

She confirmed that post mortem was conducted yesterday however she did not reveal the details.

The victim, Ashna Devi, suffered severe injuries and was discovered dead when Police arrived at the scene.

The suspect had visible stab wounds when he was found by Police officers inside a vacant house in Naitasiri last Friday. He was taken to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital for treatment where he remains to date.

The girl and suspect were reported missing from home on Wednesday following a report lodged by the suspect’s wife. The wife then called Ashna’s parents to find out if Ashna was at home only to discover she was also missing from home.

According to Ashna’s sister, the suspect and Ashna were having an affair. This was reported and a case was still pending. Police had received information last Friday that the two were seen occupying a vacant house.

Meanwhile, Police are still investigating the alleged murder of a 12-year-old girl in Samabula, Suva.

The body was found inside her home by her father on September 7.

It has since been established that the girl was alone at home at the time while her father had gone for a haircut and her mother had attended a church service.

“The investigation into the 12-year-old continues and there is nothing substantial yet to report,” Ms Naisoro said.
