It was a sad day yesterday for Ashna Devi’s family as they cremated her body at the Muainaweni Cemetery, Naitasiri.

The 14-year-old’s post- mortem examination result revealed that Ashna received severe cuts on her neck.

Her distraught mother, Urmila Wati said she could not believe her youngest child was no more.

“If only I knew this was to happen,” Mrs Wati cried.

She recalled her daughter’s last words and cried out loud asking God why she had to go through this pain.

“No one can understand what I am going through right now as she was my daughter, my baby who was a lovely child,” Mrs Wati said weeping.

“On the night she went missing I remember her kissing me and telling me not to go and collect water from the well as she had done it.

“She did all the house work and told me to rest when I returned from the farm. She didn’t tell me that she was going to leave me.”

Mrs Wati said she was now waiting for more information from the Police as they had not heard anything else after post mortem examination.

Ashna was found dead by Police officers in a vacant house in Viria last Friday after she went missing since Wednesday.

The girl’s sister had confirmed that Ashna and the man found with her were having an affair. The man is believed to be married with three children.

The matter was reported to the Police after the wife of the 35-year-old man found him missing and called Ashna’s home to know where Ashna was.

The 35-year-old man, believed to be the main suspect, is admitted at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital with severe injuries since Friday.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said they were waiting for the suspect to recover for the Police to question him.
