It seems things are not going well with the National Federation Party despite getting three people into Parliament.

Dickie Bird said some within are not happy since advertising focused only on certain candidates. Dickie Bird said this is nothing new as internal bickering has been the party’s downfall since 1977.

Earn it call

The Fiji Labour Party (FLP) management is still waiting for candidate Dr Rohit Kishore to appear before them to answer questions of his comments against leader Mahendra Chaudhry. Dickie Bird was told last night that several times Dr Kishore was reminded that he was only three months into the party. To become a leader is a matter of earning it with years of hard work with the communities, he was told.

Election replay

A veteran political expert told Dickie Bird that the recent general election was like history repeating itself. In 1999 general election, the National Federation Party (NFP) formed a coalition with Soqosoqo Vakavulewa Ni Taukei (SVT) party, which led to their downfall. The Fiji Labour Party (FLP) scooped the majority seats while NFP had none. Now the Fiji Labour Party went into partnership with the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) and lost their seats while NFP took out three.

Real culprits?

The Methodist Church leadership might have been unfairly criticised over the church’s involvement in the recent general election. Dickie Bird was told certain elements within the church who were part of the once Assemblies of Christian Churches are really the culprits.

This was the movement that supported the rebel supporters in parliament during 2000 and also were behind the formation of one of the political parties that contested the election in a move to split up Fiji First Party votes.
