The Southern Division Billiard and Snooker Association invites the public to field a team for the 3 Player Team Charity Event, to be played from October 4-5 at the Merchant’s Club in Suva.
Association media liaison officer Vineel Nand said they had earlier discussed in one of the committee meeting last week to do charity work apart from the normal snooker tournaments.
“Last weekend we had a Merchant’s Club Open and this tournament gave us an opportunity to support a cause,” he said.
“It’s been decided that we will hold a 3 Player Team Event at Merchant’s Club. We will also do some collection during the tournament.”
Nand said the reason for organising a snooker fundraising was to recognise and treat people and senior citizens with respect.
“These people are the retirees, pensioners, farmers, former sporting personalities, middle class people. They were the pillar of strength for the development of Fiji in all aspect of life, so why forget them.”
The association has embarked on fundraising drives and collection of food, clothing and utensils to help senior citizens.
Nand said players of any gender, calibre or age would be allowed to play. Entry fee is  $50 per team.
“Apart from other fundraising, we expect to collect between $500 to $800 from entry fees alone, plus raffles andfood sales during the tournament. We expect to raise over $1000. Money collected will be donated to the Senior Citizens Home in Samabula.
“Other items will be donated to the Salvation Army for distribution.”
