Spa Staff Show Concern For Environment

More than 14 staff from the Heavenly Spa at the Westin Resort, on Denarau Island, Nadi stepped up their community project initiatives through a cleanup drive in Nadi on Monday.

They picked up rubbish on the roadsides of the Nadi – Denarau corridor, one the busiest corridors in Nadi as well as the main entrance to Denarau Island.

Keeping a safe and clean environment is the key to maintaining a healthy living style, says its community project organiser, Onisivoro Rawadua.

“This planned environmental campaign is a manifestation of our commitment to the community; in line with our third quarter community project,” he said.

“Staff gathered at the Namotomoto junction at 5.30am yesterday equipped with garbage bags to avoid traffic congestion during peak hour.”

Mr Rawadua said Denarau Island housed a number of five-star resorts and rubbish left carelessly by the roadsides did not give a good impression of Fiji to our visitors.

“Tourism is the major economic contributor and we need to take steps to keep our environment clean to attract more tourists.”

He believes that people should take the responsibility themselves when it comes to disposal of rubbish and other forms of waste.

“I strongly believe in the importance of environmental initiatives having a direct impact on the community, such as health benefits.”

Mr Rawadua thanked the assistance provided by the island’s security officers.
