W

inning will come second for the newly-promoted Tailevu/Naitasiri side as their main focus for the 2014 Courts Inter District Championship is to build-up their players.

Tailevu/Naitasiri acting coach side Shalen Roy said with a young side they need build on their players experience by exposing them against the bigger teams.

“We have a very inexperienced side, so this IDC is basically a platform for us to develop the players,” said Roy.

“We need to give them exposure so they have a taste of what it is like playing at this level of competition. But lucky for us we have got a few experienced players back into the team and this will be a boost for us, especially the younger players it will serve as a guide for them as they learn along the way.”

The new additions in the squad are Labasa’s Ajesh Narayan and Vikaram Chand. Also joining the team is Kitione Tabaiwalu who played for Tavua and Ba and has been out of soccer for over a year.

Former Tailevu/Naitasiri players who have returned to help the squad are Jale Vota, Nitan Kumar and Shivneel Ram.

They are pooled with Suva, Labasa and Nadi.

Roy said they would be going into the competition as underdogs.

“We don’t have any high expectations.

“We we are playing against stronger teams and we are at a lower level and will be underdogs.” Roy said.

The team will miss coach Tagi Vonolagi during the tournament as he is in Malaysia and will return in November.

Tailevu Naitasiri play their second game against Nadi at 6pm.

The first game will be played between Rewa and Nadroga at Prince Charles Park, Nadi on October 4.
