Last Saturday’s blood drive in Lautoka organised by University of the South Pacific could save the lives of about 159 people.

The USP Lautoka campus’ second blood drive for the year, received an overwhelming response and support from donors.

Fifty-three pints of blood were collected which can potentially save up to 159 lives, USP said.

Among the donors were a group of prison officers as well as staff and students of USP and other regular donors. The drive also promoted awareness among students and university staff on the importance of blood donation and its role in saving people’s lives.

USP Lautoka Campus Blood Drive Organising Committee chairman, Upendra Kumar praised the support towards the drive.

“We urge more people to support this worthy cause in future,” Mr Kumar said.
