Miss World Fiji Charlene Tafuna’i urged members of the Suva Rotary Club to support her efforts to raise funds for the Colonial War Memorial Hospital’s Children’s Ward.

She was speaking at a Grand Pacific Hotel lunch as part of her quest for the Miss World crown.

She told those present the money raised was to buy a $64,000 ventilator, a medical equipment that helps children with their breathing.

This effort of hers is a part of a Miss World charity called Beauty with a Purpose that encourages contestants, as part of competition, to raise funds for charity.  Each contestant may choose her own cause.

Ms Tafuna’i said she had visited the ward during Miss World Fiji competition and saw the need for more equipment. She selected the ventilator after conferring with the doctors.

The Beauty with a Purpose fundraising efforts will continue right up to the time she leaves for London for the final competition on December 14.
