Kate Gets Car, First Salary

Fiji Pearls head coach Kate Carpenter received a pleasant surprise yesterday when she was given a new car and  her first pay cheque by the Fiji National Sports Commission.
Making the presentation, Commission  chairman, Peter Mazey said it was all part of their bid to enable Carpenter to perform to her best ability.
“We’re very pleased to have Kate on board and we’ve signed the contract with Netball Fiji to cover for her for the next three years and it’s all based on performance. She’ll be taking the Fiji Pearls to the World Cup as well as helping progress development of  sports locally.
“This car is part of her contract and part of our arrangement to help enable her and maximise her ability to be as effective as she can be.”
Mazey elaborated on the Commission’s commitment to assist in the continuous progress of the sport nationwide.
“We realised that netball being one of our major sports had lost its way in some of the outer areas,”Mazey said.
“We started doing a lot of development work in Sigatoka and now they have a tournament every year and that’s going great. This week, we got asked to run some clinics in Taveuni so we have four development officers taking netball to 120 villagers. That’s what it’s all about.”
Receiving the keys to her new car as well as her pay-cheque or the first month on the job, Carpenter thanked Mazey and the Commission.
“Thank you very much. It’s fantastic and I’m really grateful for the package given to me and the support that’s been given to me.”
