Soccer fans gathered in big numbers at Courts store in Lautoka to catch a glimpse of new Lloyd Farebrother Cup yesterday.
It costs $7000 which was jointly paid by Courts Fiji Limited and the Fiji Football Association.
“The deterioration was visible and we decided to bring a new trophy after 75 years,’’ Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel said.
“Even the FIFA World Cup trophy known as the Jules Rimet Trophy was replaced to go with the modern times.
“That is also the reason Fiji FA decided to go with the modern times and a lot of fans feel, the bigger the better.”
The four-feet gold and silver plated trophy weighs 30 kilogrammes, flown in from the United States of America, will be up for grabs during the Courts IDC next weekend in Suva.
Meanwhile, Patel has urged all the players to play fair during the Courts IDC which kicked off yesterday.
“Fair Play is the name of the game and see what you can do best and may the best team win.
“We have seen a lot of improvement in players’ discipline,” he stressed.
