Hundreds of Hindu children gathered at the Laxmi Narayan Temple in Suva yesterday to offer their prayers to goddess Saraswati, the god of knowledge.

Temple priest Shastri Jayendra Kumar, said the prayer ceremony was an annual event for children to learn prayers and pray to the goddess of knowledge.

“This prayer is for students only for them to attain knowledge and they attain all happiness in terms of material, knowledge and happiness,” Pundit Kumar said.

“The offering is to goddess Saraswati. The reason for giving offering is because of their knowledge.

“We offer this prayer once in a year for the children and it is important for them to attend because of the advancement of their education,” he said.

One of the children, Sheryl Pratap, who was among those offering their prayers for the first time, believes she would prosper in her education.
