Nabua Sanatan Primary dominated competition in the 2014 Suva Primary Schools Zone Cricket finals after scooping two of the three age grade titles up for grabs at Albert Park last Saturday.

Nabua pulled off the double feat after defeating St Marcellin Primary in the U12 grade and overcame Suva Muslim Primary in the U14 grade.

Stella Marist Primary beat Indira Gandhi Memorial Primary to win the U10 grade.

Cricket Fiji development officer Saiasi Fuli hailed the tournament a success, explaining how it tied in with long-term development of the sport in Fiji.

“It was a well-organised competition with 14 teams from nine primary schools in Suva,”he said.

“Everyone enjoyed it and this is the start of many more competitions at zone and national levels. This is part of Cricket Fiji’s long term development plans. It’s a pathway to our U15, U17 and U19 teams.

“The profile of the sport has lifted immensely and I’m very impressed with the number of participants that have been turning out for the competition and that turned out to the finals. Cricket is definitely gaining appeal among school children.”
