The Suva Zone Two is more focused on the development of its athletes as they prepare for the 2014 Suva Inter-Zone athletics meet next week.

Zone Two manager Ken Kafoa stressed the point during their competition at the ANZ Stadium in Suva last week.

“The competition was good and the quality and standard of the meet improved from previous years because we were able to use the new facilities this year,”Kafoa said.

“This year we’re going to focus more on developing our athletes and working on improving their skills as well as promoting healthy competition among the children. We’re not going to get caught up in thinking too much about Suva’s dominance.

“We’re just going to focus on picking the best possible team that we can assemble and get them ready to compete as we look towards the combined meet with Suva Zone One on October 15.

“Competition has really evened with a lot of schools giving the dominant schools like Veiuto and St Agnes a run for their money.”

Meanwhile, Veiuto Primary and Saint Agnes Primary were crowned the overall champions of the 2014 Suva Zone Two athletics meet at the ANZ Stadium last week.

Veiuto took out the overall title with a combined gold medal haul of 30 followed by St Agnes with 25 gold and rounding up the top three was Assemblies of God Primary with six    gold medals.

St Agnes dominated the boys division with 16 gold medals, 16 silver medals and eight bronze medals, followed by Veiuto with seven gold medals, seven silver medals and four bronze medals while AOG tallied three gold medals and one bronze medal.
