Bua People Told To Register Births

Delegates to the tikina ‘o Lekutu (Lekutu district), Bua province meeting on Tuesday, were urged by the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages department to register their young children.

“The reason we are encouraging people to register is to make it easier for them because we have seen that parents find it hard to enrol their children in school because they do not have birth certificates,” said department official, Laise Dawai

Mrs Dawai said it was vital to have everyone registered to strengthen the Government’s civil registration and vital statistics system.

“We also need to state here that the registration done by the department is totally different from those carried out by the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, which is the registration of iTaukei people in the iVola ni Kawa Bula (VKB),” she said.

“After registering with us, iTaukei people need to take their birth, death or marriage certificates to their respective provincial administration office or iTaukei Affairs administration office so that they can be registered into the VKB.”
