Yanktesh Permal Reddy has seen the best and worst of Fijian history in recent times. Better known as ‘YP’ Reddy, the Pacific hotel tycoon has never been more optimistic about doing business in Fiji.

The unassuming businessman was at Parliament yesterday, completing a lifetime ritual. “I have always attended the opening of Parliament in Fiji. This is good,” he said.

As for the future, Mr Reddy was effusive in praise of the Bainimarama-led Government’s policies.

“This is really the end of the coup culture. We are all called Fijian now and I support the PM.”

He intends to take the Reddy Group, which he oversees as chairman, to new heights under the Government’s business-friendly policies. The Reddy Group has a diverse portfolio, the most visible of which is the Tanoa Group of Hotels. The Group has six hotels in Fiji, one in Samoa and three in New Zealand. “As you know, in Fiji, we cater for the locals,” he said.

Mr Reddy expressed confidence in his highly successful method of hotel management that has seen the exponential growth of the company since 1957.

He mingled freely with parliamentarians from both sides of the House over tea yesterday. Mr Reddy’s optimism is shared by the Government and international financial forecasters.
