Senior officers of the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) yesterday organised a surprise birthday celebration for Commissioner Lieutenant-Colonel Ifereimi Vasu.

They visited him and his family at his Domain residence in Suva early morning.

“We were awakened to the sound of the Fiji Corrections Service Band playing the Reveille at my residence,” he said.

Senior officers of the FCS had gathered at the Commissioner’s residence as early as 4am to wish him a happy birthday on his 55th birthday.

Lt Colonel Vasu thanked the senior officers for the greatest surprise ever.

Celebrations continued at the National Headquarters in Suva where the FCS family gathered to share in the auspicious occasion.

Deputy Commissioner of Corrections, Superintendent Akuila Namakadre said Lt-Cl Vasu deserved the surprise because Lt-Col Vasu had set high standards for the FCS.

“Sir, we would like to thank you most sincerely for your leadership and vision that have seen the department rise to where it is today; you have set the standards for us and this is just a small token of our appreciation that we would like to share with you on your special day.”

The Commissioner has improved the welfare of the staff and had allowed each institution to raise funds for their own welfare.

His only advice was for them to look after their finances properly and everything must be recorded.
