Disciplined Forces Boost Cancer Fight

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces, , donated $5000 to help the Fiji Cancer Society.

Commander Brigadier-General Mosese Tikoitoga made the donation at the biggest morning tea hosted by the Minister for Immigration, Defence and National Security, Timoci Natuva, at Albert Park, Suva, on Thursday.

Mr Natuva hosted the morning tea to assist and contribute towards the fundraising efforts by the Fiji Cancer Society.

Also, present at the morning tea was the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, the Commissioner of Police Bernardus Groenewald, Navy Commander John Fox, Director Immigration Nemani Vuniwaqa, Major General Lee of the South Korean military, invited guests and senior officers from RFMF and Police.

They all made their contribution to the Fiji Cancer Society.

The Permanent Secretary for Defence and National Security, Osea Cawaru, said that cancer was one of the leading causes of deaths in Fiji.

He said the challenge was to ensure periodic screening, early detection and timely treatment. The organisation of the morning tea he said will assist the Fiji Cancer Society in spreading awareness and educating more Fijians on cancer and issues surrounding it.

He thanked all those present and said their presence was a testament to their commitment to the worthy cause. The amount collected was over $7314.45 but Mr Cawaru said more contributions were received and would confirm the amount later.
