The Queen Victoria School chapel is a beacon of hope to old scholars and current students.

This was the message by the general secretary and president-elect of the Methodist Church in Fiji, Reverend Tevita Banivanua, the chief guest at the chapel’s golden jubilee celebration at the school yesterday.

“The noble idea that became the physical presence of this beacon of hope has over the years become a tower of empowerment and spiritual home to thousands of students,” Rev Banivanua said.

“Many have found the love and peace of God through this chapel as a good starting point in their pursuit of excellence in life. Thanks be to God.”

He said many students and faculty, through the work of chaplains and preachers of the gospel, had found the chapel as a Bethel, a place where angels of God ascended and descended in a gateway to heaven bringing forth God’s manifold blessings.

The president-elect said the contribution that the chapel has given to all QVS Old Boys and families could never be measured.

Yet, the fruits of those hidden contributions can be felt and seen in their services to Fiji and to the world and also how they have been excellent stewards of God’s many blessings.

“It is the hope of the Methodist Church in Fiji that with the noble theme chosen for the golden jubilee celebration of ‘Fostering Servanthood and Stewardship in Fiji’s 21st Century’ and the school motto of ‘Forward Fiji’ will be felt and realised wherever God calls QVS Old Boys to serve,” he said.

Rev Banivanua was accorded a full traditional iTaukei ceremony after delivering the sermon.

A ‘vakamalolo’ [a dance done sitting] followed led by a former head boy and former Prime Minister of Fiji, Sitiveni Rabuka.

Rev Banivanua thanked the school’s Old Boys for their hymns and said it was the best of all the male voices he had ever heard.
