Bigger Celebration For Festival Of Lights

Nadi’s Festival of Lights committee intends to stage a bigger celebration on October 16 – 18 after receiving a $10,000 sponsorship from WEBCOM.
The company is a Nadi -based web development and hosting provider.
The committee’s chairman, Vineel Nand said they were very happy with the sponsorship.
“We are very grateful for the kind sponsorship from WEBCOM and we are very fortunate for the support,” he said.
“It was back in 2010 when this event begun and it was when Mr Bainimarama and Mr Sayed- Khaiyum launched and financially assisted the committee.
“Since then we began looking for sponsors for this event and have successfully done so for five years now but this year will be bigger.
“This event is welcome to everyone and it is not only for Hindus because of the Diwali celebration. That is why it is called the Festival of Lights.
“It is a festival full of joy, unity, colours and prosperity,” he said.
The three- day event will have live entertainment from Ba, Lautoka, Nadi and Sigatoka secondary school students.
“We will have schools coming in and performing on the first day and we will also have the likes of Tadra Kahani winners Swami Vivekananda College performing on the last day,” Mr Nand said.
There will be free stalls for charitable groups as part of the committee’s community service together with free medical checkups provided by Projects Abroad.
Fireworks on the last day will be at 9:15pm.
