Vodafone Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan wasn’t about to get ahead of himself and took some time to reflect on his team’s performance, confident of better outcomes today.

“Yes. I’m pleased everybody has had a start as well. It’s still not quite as clinical as I’d like but there’s some serious teams out there. So from now on we’ve got to be on the money,” Ryan said.

He acknowledged the pressure placed on this season as the Olympic qualifiers and how much more intense all the games for Day Two would be.

Looking beyond the Gold Coast, Ryan had a positive outlook on the series and was confident of his core squad for the season.

“It’s good. I wanted to give these guys an opportunity. We’ve got about 20 players now I know are good enough to play in the world series. So it’s about chucking resources and putting it to those guys. Hopefully they’ll be the ones that will lead us to success next year.”
