Despite the strong sun, numerous senior citizens turned out to be part of the Fiji Day parade at Albert Park ground on Friday.

Eighty-year-old Aisake Verebasaga of Waitoga, Nairai, Lomaiviti said he was thankful and proud to be part of the Fiji Day celebration again this year.

“The younger generation would not really know how Fiji was ruled before it became independent.

“But to summarise it, I would say that it was through the hard work of our fathers and our leaders at that time,”Mr Verebasaga said.

He said he was privileged to witness the parade and most importantly the prestigious celebration he looked forward to each year.

Unaisi Tuvou also felt the same thing.

“I am currently living in Vesida HART and looking after myself.

“I thank the Government for its assistance and also being able to be here to be part of the ceremony,”Mrs Tuvou said.
