Tomorrow, all Ministers in the Bainimarama Cabinet will begin giving their maiden speeches in Parliament. It will set the wheels in motion for greater things to come for Fiji.

A firm directive has been given by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama to his Cabinet: Implement all policies in the FijiFirst manifesto in the first year of being in Governmen0t.

Fiji has the potential of being the next Singapore. With the right leadership and right control over the purse strings, Fiji can do that and more. No other country in the region has the type of leadership that Fiji commands.

Singapore is the size of Taveuni. It has no natural resources. Singaporeans even need to buy their drinking water from other countries. Their military hires a jungle in the neighbouring country in order to do military exercise.

Yet, today Singapore is the envy of many other countries and this is something Fiji is striving towards. Why it was not done in the early 1990s is anyone’s guess.

The Bainimarama Government’s vision of Fiji is an educated nation, one where meritocracy takes precedence. They are of course even willing to work with those whose views are diametrically opposed to that of the Government’s.

Before the Prime Minister left for the United Nations General Assembly, he reminded his Ministers what was expected of them.

And, there is no space for slacking off with this lot. Mr Bainimarama is known for taking tough decisions and replacing non-performing ministers will not be a difficult one for him.

There are still a number of capable people who can come forward.

Over these four years, much reforms and transformative policies are expected to be put in place. Some of which have never even been considered, sadly, by previous “democratic” Governments.
