Young Fijians were also at Albert Park last Friday to watch the Fiji Day parade.

Eighteen-year-old Jitoko Soko said: “I decided to come down with my family to Albert Park to be part of the Fiji Day celebration.”

He said his family looked forward to the event every year.

“Today is a public holiday and it is also one of the best days in which families can spend time together,”Mr Soko said.

Meanwhile Year 10 students of Saint Joseph’s Secondary School in Suva put on a Martin Luther Junior dance play yesterday.

School teacher Teannako Ofati said the theme of the dance was based on slavery and freedom.

“The Prime Minister emphasises on the eradication of racial discrimination so we thought that this could somehow relate to Fiji Day.

“There are so many races here and it is a Christian nation. This dance play hopes to highlight the importance of eradicating racial discrimination,”Mrs Ofati said.
