Expect some inspiring maiden speeches today as MPs take the floor in Parliament.

The Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, will be the first to deliver his.

He is likely to reiterate Government’s plan for the next four years with particular emphasis on education.

His speech will clearly set the standards based on his Government’s expectation of how the country can progress. The FijiFirst manifesto will make the core elements of the speech.

Mr Bainimarama will be followed by the Leader of Opposition, Ro Teimumu Kepa.

Ro Teimumu is likely to try and justify why they are in Parliament although they say they do not acquesce to the new order.

They are critical of certain aspects of the Constitution and how it was drawn up. They made their position known in a letter to the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.

The third speaker will be Rosy Akbar, Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation.

She has an inspiring story to tell on how she was raised by a devoted mother, Nazmun Nisha, who sacrificed a lot to see her five children educated.

Three of Mrs Akbar’s siblings are in the medical profession.

Mrs Akbar, an educationist, is expected to emphasise the importance of education along the same lines as the PM.

Veena Bhatnagar, the asistant Minister for Health, will speak next.

The order of speakers will be alphabetical in the same way as they were sworn in a week ago.

Each speaker will be allocated 20 minutes. Based on an eight-hour day, every MP using all 20 minutes, and if you factor in meal breaks, the last maiden speech could be delivered on Wednesday.
