Delivering his first speech at Parliament yesterday Opposition member Josefa Dulakiverata says they will make sure Bills are properly scrutinised.

Mr Dulakiverata said the Opposition would ensure that all Bills introduced into Parliament were properly examined before they became acts.

“Although we are outnumbered and disadvantaged, we will provide a strong opposition,”Mr Dulakiverata said.

He also highlighted some pressing issues that he said he had encountered during his campaign in Tailevu North. These included, to name a few, the level of services provided by public officials, the need to construct a road network, Government’s policy on the development of Native Land , policy on the minimum wage rate and the development in the agriculture sector.

He also acknowledged the support of his party, family and his village.

“The journey to this house has not been easy since I had to resign from my work in 2006 to stand for election under the banner of a political party. When things did not work out well, I had to stand as an Independent.

“I was fortunate to have been accepted by the Social Democratic Liberal Party as a candidate and I joined the party because I believed in the ideals and principles it stands for,” he said.
