Fijian Businesses Donate

A number of Fijian businesses have lent a hand in donating food items and other goods to the crew of the three voyaging canoes.

The canoes are Gaualofa of Samoa, Marumaru Atua of Cook Islands and Fiji’s Uto Ni Yalo.

The donations were given to the crew yesterday at the University of the South Pacific’s Laucala Marine Campus foreshore.

The voyage, named ‘Mua’ is set to commence today heading to Port Vila in Vanuatu then to Brisbane and then to Sydney.

Its main aim is to raise awareness on the impact of climate change to the people of the Pacific.

This will be at the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) World Parks Conference in Australia where it will be held from November 14 to 19.

FMF Foods promotions and events coordinator, Sheik Tafeed said they supported events as they believed it was for a worthy cause.

“This is a good marketing for our goods even though they can find it in other pacific island countries,” Mr Tofeed.

RC Manubhai & Company Ltd, donated $4,000 worth of tools to help with the repairs of the vessels before the long voyage.

All the businesses that have donated operate and export their products around the Pacific.
