Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar has not only made her family proud, but also her secondary school teacher.

Xavier College principal brother Francis Abraham described Ms Akbar as a well-oriented student who was always involved in school and community work.

“Rosy was always participating in school and community work during her school days.In fact she was elected as the assistant headgirl for the school,” he said.

He said; “When I heard that she was running for elections, I felt that it was really good for her, since she involves herself a lot in the community and people know her.

“She has been an inspiration to the students here in Xavier College, and with her achievement students are being motivated,” he said.

Sixty-six-year-old Nazmun Nisha did not find her daughter’s achievement as surprising.

“Rosy has always been a hardworking girl back when she was really young, she would not have play as much as she should be.

“After school she would come home do her chores than she would do her homework that went on till university,” she said.

She said she was not surprised, but she was very proud of her daughter’s achievement.

“I was not able to attend her swearing-in but I managed to see her on television and I was in tears to watch my daughter be in Parliament and I am really proud of where she is now,” she emotionally said.

Ms Akbar is the second eldest out of five siblings.
