The Wailada Rabbitohs Rugby League Club of Lami received a sizable donation of sports gear yesterday.

And it’s all thanks to the Henderson family from Sydney, who are in country with the Australian Universities Rugby League team.

Mitchell Henderson, 21, who will play for the AURL team against Fiji National University 3.30pm at the ANZ Stadium today, shares on how and he became involved.

“I just noticed we had a lot of stuff in our dressing rooms,”he said.

“I figured there would be a lot of people in Fiji who could put it to better use.

“So I got a bunch of my stuff together and told my friends about it who in turn contributed. Then my dad got in touch with Jone (Wesele) who became our local contact.

“Fiji’s been great so far and the game against USP was a good one and I’m definitely looking forward to the match against FNU. I encourage kids in Fiji interested to take up the sport because it’s a great one and if you work hard you can go places.”

Wailada Rabbitohs manager Laisenia Kasa expressed the club’s sincerest gratitude to the Hendersons.

“This is such a huge contribution and this will definitely serve as huge motivation to the boys next season. We’re looking forward to the new season. We reached the semifinals this year so next year we’re pledging to make it to the finals.”

Fiji National Rugby League development officer Jone Wesele hoped this would serve as motivation to Fijians in the NRL to follow suit.
