More Improvements Needed, Says Tourism Fiji’s Freer
NFP Party Leader Biman Prasad and Opposition leader Sitiveni Rabuka.

Ken Freer wants to see the tourism dollar spread further.

The acting chief executive of Tourism Fiji signalled changes now happening in Tourism Fiji when he stresed:

nMarketing more places like Vanua

Levu and the Nadi interior

n Opening a China-based office to
allow more sourcing of Chinese
tourists to further diversify source

markets

Mr Freer said: “For the first seven months of this year we have seen more international visitors coming into Fiji than any of the last four years so that was very positive.

Encouraing needed

“But we still need to work on encouraging tourists to stay longer in order for us to have a huge impact in the tourism industry,” he said.

He said that there was a need to get tourists to experience activities in the interior places.

“Most visitors are very familiar with Denarau but what we are trying to do is introduce places like Vanua Levu and interior places of Nadi.

“The reason why this is important is because when a tourist sees this we will be able to get more value to our economy because of these unique sites,” he said.

The industry will be looking forward to open their new office in China.

“The Chinese market is an enormous opportunity in Fiji, it is a market that has been growing incredibly so we are opening an office in Shanghai towards the end of this year where we will have a staff initially of two.

“There job will be tasked at working with the travel trade and working in advertising with public relations to encourage more Chinese people to come down to Fiji,” he said.
