The National Fire Authority is hoping for a fire-free Diwali next week Thursday.

Authority’s chief executive officer John O’Connor advises members of the public to be cautious while using firecrackers during Diwali.

He said this was to prevent any fire incident from occurring.

However, Mr O’Connor said fire officers at all fire stations would be on standby for any emergencies on the day.

“The NFA is asking members of the public to be mindful while using firecrackers on Diwali. If children are using them, they are to be supervised at all times,” Mr O’Connor said.

“Firecrackers are to be directed upwards because of the dry weather we are experiencing to prevent any unnecessary fires from taking place.”

He advises Diwali celebrants to place candles and diyas at places where it would be visible.
