Queens Out, Pearls Eye 10 Tests

The Fiji Pearls will have to wait until the end of the month to know what will become of their test slot left vacant by the Malawi Queens after they cancelled their trip last week.

Fiji Pearls head coach Kate Carpenter confirmed the cancellation but assured the national side would still have tests which had been planned out.

“It is unfortunate that the Queens have cancelled their trip but we will have tests which we’ll confirm later this month. So we’re lining up our options right now, confirming the teams, test dates, venues and then we’ll announce it all at the end of the month.

“This cancellation is unfortunate but we won’t let it slow us down or hinder our plans to continue with building up with a busy year ahead for Netball Fiji. In the meantime, we’ll continue with our training and look forward to who we’ll meet in place of Malawi.

“It was in the programme but Malawi are unable to meet that commitment so our first international matches and preparation will start in next year – that six months through until the World Cup.”

Carpenter says Fiji expects to play about 10 tests between now and the World Cup, including at the Pacific Games in Port Moresby, with further announcements due later this month to be made by Netball Fiji president Wainikiti Bogidrau.

The Pearls hosted the Queens last November losing 45-62, 39-74 in Suva.
