The Fiji Sun team in Nadi were paid a surprise visit by  students and teachers of Swami Vivekananda College yesterday, who serenaded the team with a birthday song.

Led by student headboy and girl Praney Nand and Keleni Domonanumi and teachers, the team also brought hand-  made birthday cards made by students.

Fiji Sun daily provides about 400 copies of the paper to the school and students.

Headboy Nand said: “Before we used to have just one copy of the Fiji Sun which used to be put in the library. During recess and lunch breaks, everyone would crowd around the paper and not everyone could really read it well.

“Now, we are so thankful that each class receives about ten copies of the paper. It has really assisted us in being aware of current affairs.”

Headgirl Keleni said: “For us in Year Thirteen, this was the first time we voted in elections.

Fiji Sun played a very important role in informing us about the different political parties and the candidates and more importantly what each political party stood for.

“Every student in SVC has benefitted greatly from this initiative.

“After a week, students are allowed to take those papers home, so even their parents and relatives have been able to benefit out of this.”

Each class made a special birthday card for the Fiji Sun, highlighting what the newspaper meant to them.

Fiji Sun West sales manager Ana Qio said the entire team was touched by the thoughtfulness of the students and management.
