Students should know and understand how a final product is put together, says Drasa Avenue Primary School teacher Hirdesh Kumar.

Eighty Year Seven and Year Eight students from Lautoka took on a round-the-island tour yesterday and stopped over at the Fiji Sun Head office in Walu Bay, Suva.

Mr Kumar said the tour was important for the students because they read the Fiji Sun newspaper every day.

“We are visiting five important places in Fiji this year to enhance the knowledge of the students,” Mr Kumar said.

“Students read the Fiji Sun everyday so we came here to familiarise the students with different departments and how a paper is compiled and the various different process a paper has to go through before a paper is compiled.”

Through his observation, Mr Kumar noticed that the students were curious and surprised at the various processes involved.

“They asked questions about news reporters, advertising, printing and the folding and distribution of papers,” he said.

“After the tour, students will write an assessment report which is 10 per cent going towards their final grade.

Mr Kumar was pleased with the student’s curiosity and their eagerness to learn adding that the trip was worthwhile.
