A 29-year-old mother is counting her lucky stars after her six- and- a- half month- old baby girl escaped injuries in an accident on Wednesday.

The baby and her mother were sitting in the back seat of their car when it was bumped from behind by a 10-seater vehicle at Nadi Back Road.

“Because of the impact of the bump, our car took a 180 degree turn, facing into the opposite direction and the 10-seater vehicle ended up in a ditch,” Joshlyn Prasad Rao said.

She said her baby was strapped in a baby car seat which prevented her from being thrown forward.

“My husband gave the indicating lights and we were waiting for a vehicle to drive past us coming from the opposite direction before we could enter the driveway.”

She said when her husband was turning into the driveway their car was bumped.

The accident happened at around 8.30am, she said, however police officers arrived two hours later at the scene.

“Doctors at Nadi Hospital examined my baby and assured us of her well being but because of their protocol, my baby is being kept under observation for 24 hours.”

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said investigations were underway into the alleged matter.

“No one was injured in the incident,” she said.
