A Guangdong Medical Delegation from China provided free dental treatment at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital’s Dental Clinic in Suva yesterday.

The delegation is made up of four dentists and a nurse.

Head of Delegation Huang Yebin, the vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress said they were visiting three countries – Fiji, Tonga then New Zealand.

“We will provide free dental treatment for our Fijian friends,” Mr Huang said.

“We are going to have exchange seminar with dentistry students of the Fiji National University and local dentists. With this activity, we are going to promote the friendly relations between the two sides. The delegation hopes to promote the medical exchanges between the two sides and we hope to help the Fijian friends to know more about Guangdong Province.

“Besides medical facilities, we also have world class expertise along with state of the art equipments,” he said.

Meanwhile, Assistant Minister for Health Veena Bhatnagar said the ministry was grateful for the help.

“This is a sign of friendship and we are grateful,” Ms Bhatnagar said.

She said dental problems, especially tooth decay and gum diseases, were among the most common in the world, and Fiji was no exception.  The delegation leaves for Tonga today.
