Fiji Will Host 2017 Tourney

The 2014 FANCA tournament (Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and America) organising committee has agreed to host their next tournament in Fiji in 2017.

This came after requests were made by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and the Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

FANCA committee chairman Mohammed Rafiq made the confirmation yesterday.

“We definitely agree with the Prime Minister and the Attorney-General on their requests to bring back the tournament in 2017,”he said.

“Bainimarama strongly encouraged the return of the tournament to help generate tourism and business in the local economy.

Rafiq said it was the first time for the Southern Division to host the games and acknowledged the Nausori Town Council for the great venue in Ratu Cakobau Park.

“Everyone is enjoying themselves and no major hiccups of any kind being faced by the teams so far.”

Rafiq called on the public to come out and support the tournament.

“We’re strongly urging family, friends and the general public to come out and enjoy this competition as well as showing support for the participants. Come down to the grounds with your family and enjoy the competition.”

The competition was officially opened Mr Bainimarama on Wednesday afternoon and will end with the final scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
