Five local players will play for the Vodafone Fiji Bati against Lebanon in Sydney on Sunday.

The players, who were selected from the Vodafone Cup Top 8 competition, will team up with 12 overseas based players led by Wes Naiqama.

For Isoa Qionimacawa, who played for Nadera Panthers during the Vodafone Top 8 tournament, this will be the first time for him to travel overseas.

“I’m so excited because it will be my first time travelling overseas and I just want to thank the selectors for picking me.” Qionimacawa said.

The 21-year-old who played Union for three years and recently switched to league said it was his dream to play for the Fiji Bati.

“I played rugby union for three years with the Northland team and I switched to playing league because I really wanted to play for the Fiji Bati and knowing I have that chance now, I am really excited.” said Qionimacawa

Along with Isoa is Sisa Baleikoro who is aiming to secure a contract overseas.

“It is my fourth time travelling overseas and I am hoping to at least secure a contract when I go over for the fifth time and I’m really excited.” Baleikoro said.

The other three players picked to travel with the Rick Stone coached side is Josaia Rabelemaivileko (Nabua Broncos), Josefa Veitaukula (Saru Dragons) and Nereo Senimoli (Saru Dragons).
