Year Eight student Kamnit Kaushal Lal of Nukuloa Sanatan Dharm School of Ba was elated after he won the Under-14 boys 1500 metres event.

This was during the Ba Primary Schools Athletics meet at Govind Park yesterday.

Lal won gold medal with a time of five minutes and 21 seconds.

Headteacher Marshall Ali said Lal had been consistent in his training and did his level best to win.

“Lal comes from a farming background and faced difficulties to purchase a pair of track shoes, but despite this, he did very well,” Ali said.

“Competition was not easy but finishing at a time under six minutes is a good achievement.

“There are a number of unidentified talents in Ba and they need help and guidance.

“Lal comes from a poor family and he is doing well in his academic studies, but if his passion is to be an athlete, then we need to help him take a step further.”

He said if Lal continued to develop his running skills, he could be seen flying the national flag.

The two- day meet ends yesterday.
