An elated father was literally on cloud nine after his eldest son was announced the 2014 Dux of Xavier College in Ba yesterday.

Proud father Vijay Masiruia was speechless when trying to describe the feeling when his son, Pratik Maisuria, was being honoured with the award.

“I never had to ask my son to study hard because he had planned to be named as the Dux when he started his secondary school studies,” Mr Maisuria said.

“For my son the journey does not end here and so should not his achievements.

“My son wishes to be pursue a PhD in the field on engineering and I wish him all the best.”

Not only did Pratik scoop the Dux awards he took other awards in English, Chemistry, Physics, Introduction to Technology and a $200 cash prize.

Pratik, who is also the headboy, said: “I had set my focus towards this goal, however I was not the only student vying for this award and the competition was stiff.”

The Year 13 student said: “The magnitude of the support from my family, relatives and my friends can never be measured and I thank them for their support. I also thank my educators.

“This will be a motivation for my younger brother to follow in my footsteps.”

Pratik wants to be a structural and architectural engineer and provide his services to his country.
