This year’s Diwali celebration at the Nausori Market was a memorable one says the Minister for Local Government Parveen Kumar.

Mr Kumar was chief guest at the market’s annual Diwali celebration in Nausori yesterday.

“This year’s Diwali celebration get together is important given that this venue shall be hosting its last Diwali get together for the vendors of Nausori Municipal Market given the fact that the market vendors will be shifting to the new municipal market early next year,” Mr Kumar said.

The proposed new market will be located beside the Nausori Catholic parish near the old Nausori golf course.

“No doubt this market has many memories and attachments and has been a catalyst in bonding the people of Rewa, Tailevu and Naitasiri province.”

He said over the years the Nausori Market had been a place for community interaction, for trading and other associated activities.

“This united Diwali get together is very much symbolic of the multi-racial spirit at Nausori Market.”

Mr Kumar reassured the vendors that his ministry was committed to strengthening the bond and the services by ensuring that the right facilities were made available to them in the coming years.

The event also saw the Rewa Market Vendors Association giving out free food to people who gathered at the market to witness the celebration.
