St Joseph the Worker Primary School dominated the 2014 Nasinu Zone competition at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday.

The Nasinu powerhouse clinched the overall medal tally with 28 gold, 22 silver and 15 bronze medals. Long-time rival Delainamasi Government School came second with 24 gold, 22 silver and 17 bronze medals.

Bishop Kempthorne Primary rounded out the top three bagging 14 gold, 17 silver and 11 bronze medals.

Meanwhile, Nasinu is focusing on building up the strongest possible contingent ahead of the 2014 Central Division competition next month.

“Our main focus this year really is to just build up and assemble the strongest possible contingent for our divisional meet in November,”Nasinu manager Jone Balemaihawaii said.

“Two of our schools, St John Bosco Primary and Nabua Primary pulled out so we’ll have to make the best of it.

“The usual domination of top schools Delainamasi Government and St Joseph the Worker Primary continues.

“This is because they are the biggest schools in the zone.

But we’ve got promising talents from across the zone, especially with the sprints and middle-distance events.

“We wish all the athletes all the best and look forward to a fruitful, successful divisional meet next month.”
